How can I get both my car and house battery charged optimally in winter?
We can help you charge your house battery in the cheapest hours even if your car is charging at the same time and save the stored energy for the expensive hours while not draining your house battery to support the car battery charging.
If you charge your car during the night, as many typically do during winter months, you can use our Scheduled Battery Lock feature. Simply set your preferred schedule once, and IntelliCharge will follow it until you disable or update it.
Go to Plant settings and scroll down to the Battery Lock (EV) section.
- Enable Use the Schedule.
- Click Add to create a schedule.
- Select the day(s) when you do not want the house battery to be discharged.
- Select the start and end time for the selected days.
- Click + to add additional schedules if you need different times for different days.
- Click Save.
During the selected period, the system will only use actions that limit house battery discharge and allow its charge.
Remember to also enable Automatic EV Charge Filtering so IntelliCharge excludes EV charging consumption when estimating your household energy needs.
If there’s a risk of blowing your fuse when both the car and house battery charge at max speed at the same time, we can add a limitation to your house battery charging speed.
Example:
Your house fuse can maximum take 20kWh.
Your car is charging 10kWh.
Your house consumption can go up to 4kWh.
This leaves 6kWh for your house battery charging.
Since all your energy needs are covered from the grid when the battery is charging, you need to take this into account.
If you have a 6kWh battery or lower, you do not need to add any limitation.
If however you have a bigger battery which can technically charge over this threshold, you should go to your IntelliCharge plant settings and enter your limit under the Charging Rules - Max charge power from grid. Remember to check Enable custom charging rules and Save your changes.
